We practice weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-10:00 pm. Rehearsal time is spent specifically on vocal skill development, musical mastery and learning new music.
We compete in local competitions, including the Sweet Adelines International Region 26 Western Canadian Championship annually. This contest is held every spring in one of Canada’s western three provinces of BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
We learn. Several times a year, we have additional rehearsals, arranged in advance, when we hire an outside vocal coach to work with us. These are some of the most exciting days for us, as we find that our skills leap to the next level whenever we’ve had coaching.
One weekend a year is devoted to a retreat, where we work our voices and performance intensively, culminating in a Saturday night party when we reward ourselves.
We perform. We hold two annual shows, one just prior to Regional competition (a sneak peek) and one at Christmas.
We also like to do a lot of singing in the community, to support good causes and celebrations. Around Christmas we’re often at senior centres, malls and events. There is no prerequisite for participation in these seasonal performances. Sometimes we are guest performers in other groups’ shows.
